In less than 2 years, London will be the host of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games and the athletes of 205 nations will compete in 300 events. The games will run from 27 July to 12 August 2012. Unlike Lillehammer, Norway, or Sochi, Russia, London is a familiar destination with famous historical attractions and it is easily accessible by most major airlines. World Cup 2010: Metatarsal Fracture in Elite Soccer Players




With the World Cup 2010 well on its way, no doubt we will read somewhere during the tournament about a player who has just fractured a metatarsal bone in his foot during one of the games. It does seem that more and more elite soccer players suffer from this type of injury these days.
So what exactly is a broken metatarsal and why do we seem to hear so much about it these days more than we ever have done in the past? Before we identify why, let us take a closer look at the metatarsal bones first.
The bones between the ankle and the toes are called the metatarsal bones. The first metatarsal is located on the inside of the foot, and connects the ankle with the big toe, whereas the fifth metatarsal bone is located on the outside of the foot and connects the ankle with the little toe.
The two main functions of the feet are to propel and to support. The metatarsals play a major role in these two functions. By acting like a rigid lever to aid propulsion, they manage to increase our efficiency whilst walking or running. Additionally, they act like a flexible structure to aid and support balance to cope with uneven ground.
The second, third and fourth and fifth metatarsal bones are usually injured as a result of a prolonged period of overuse, creating something we call a stress fracture. A stress fracture is an incomplete fracture in the bone. It could be described as a very small sliver or crack in the bone. These types of fractures are also known as "hairline fractures." These kinds of fractures are common with athletes, soldiers, and ballet dancers.
Another common cause for metatarsal fractures is direct trauma i.e. a direct kick to the sole of the opponent's boot. This typically affects the first metatarsal bone.
One of the reason why the foot is so susceptible to fractures is that is very few muscles and fat protecting the foot from any impact.
The initial therapy with a broken metatarsal bone is to rest it, absolutely no exercise for 4 to 8 weeks. The recovery time of the injury is determined by the extent of the damage and which of the five metatarsal bones is affected.

This is especially true if you are trying to work out a mechanical problem with your swing. Let the balls come at you easily and focus on the movement of your body. Do not try to hit too hard, either. Go for a good, solid swing and focus on changes in your swing and how it affects contact with the pitch.
Once you get a feel for hitting off of the machine, you can begin to make adjustments in your swing. As you sample different pitches, see what it feels like to drive the ball or keep the ball on the ground. Remember, the goal of the game is not always to aim for the fences. You need to be able to manage the pitches the best way possible and hitting a home run is not always going to be an option. A pitching machine gives you a chance to make adjustments in your swing based on the type of pitches you are facing.

The benefits of interval training are awesome, and all you need to do is the following: go all out for two minutes, and then go easy for two minutes. Do this for four or five repetitions, and you should be set.
Consistency is key. By training frequently, by hitting the road at least a couple of times a week, your body learns to continue to adapt and grow. If you train less than this, your body won’t respond to a progressive overload, and will rather see each training session as an isolated incident that it doesn’t need to react to. By being consistent, by training regularly and frequently, your body will adapt to that lifestyle, and you’ll be able to realize greater results than you otherwise would. What does that mean? Don’t take weeks off.

Next, drill a ¾” hole in the center of the circle, then use a jigsaw to cut outward, angling toward the circle and then once you’ve reached the circle, follow the line around until you have cut out the complete circle.
Cut 2x4s to support the sheet and affix them using wood glue. Allow the glue time to set, then you’re ready to place the rear supports. The proper height of the cornhole boards should be 12 inches. Affix the rear supports using lag bolts and washers so that they can be retracted for easy storage.
